Genocide Research Guide

Genocide: The deliberate or systematic destruction of a national, ethnic or religious group.

ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS FOR CRITICAL THINKING: 1. Do we have a responsibility to stop genocide whenever it becomes apparent? 2. Can Students at Southwest High do anything to stop the current genocide in Darfur? 3. Should the US military or NATO forces intervene to prevent further acts of genocide in Darfur?

STUDENT DIRECTIONS: Write a research paper using our school-approved format.

STEP 1: Look for library books. Try searching the online catalog using search terms that fit your topic and the names of the countries you are searching. These terms are also useful for searching online databases etc.

STEP 2: Try the online databases. They have trustworthy, reliable and scholarly information that you can use on any school paper.

Grolier online encyclopedia is very helpful for general information and resources. It contains information on Darfur, Rwanda, World War II, Armenia and Bosnia. It does not get into specific details but the entries here are very helpful for builing a background on what you are researching (think of it as the place to go in order to get introduced to your topic) This site also contains links to outside resources such as government websites etc.

When you type in the signon and password you need to choose between two links. The first will take you to the e-library and History Study Center. The first link will take you to encyclopedia articles, tv and audio transcripts, journals, books, and images.

This is a nongovernmental organization that provides general and background information on the International Criminal Court. You can find news, documents on many of the countries you are researching.
